Britain is a small country, so the weather is quite consistent throughout. It does get colder in the North of Scotland and is a little warmer in the South of England, but the differences are not too extreme.

So, let’s keep it simple and go through the seasons of the year!

Let’s start with Autumn:

1: Autumn 1：秋天
As summer finishes in the UK, Autumn starts in September and goes through to the end of November. A bit like China.

In England, September temperatures vary between 9 and 14 degrees Celsius and in Scotland, between 7 and 14 Celsius.

November can see a drop to between 3.6 to 9.4 in England and 2 to 7.4 Celsius in Scotland.

Most universities, workplaces and hotels will start their central heating in October.

It rains quite a lot in Autumn, especially in November, so wear a waterproof, medium-weight jacket and always carry an umbrella!

2: Winter

UK winters are not often very harsh. There is sometimes a cold weather front called “The Beast From the East” which comes from Russia.

It can drop temperatures significantly and the north of Scotland can drop much lower than England at times.

However, winters in the UK are often relatively mild compared to China. It may snow around twice.

However, be warned, the UK does not cope very well with bad weather.
It creates transport delays and large buildings often close.

Because the weather can vary between cold and mild, choose multiple layers of clothing, rather than very thick cold-weather clothing.

Springtime in the UK is a beautiful, green time of year.

March temperatures are still rather cold, ranging from 2 to 9 degrees Celsius in England and 1 to 7 degrees Celsius in Scotland.

The weather tends to brighten up in time for the Easter holiday in late March, early April.

Easter is a Bank Holiday weekend and marks the start of the summer season.

Throughout May, temperatures pick up to between 7 and 16 degrees Celsius in England and around 4.5 to 13 Celsius in Scotland.

The weather is often bright, but spring brings a lot of rainy days, so don’t forget that umbrella.

There certainly are some warmer, t-shirt days in May, so as far as clothing goes, stick to wearing layers.

4: Summer 4：夏天
Summer is much milder than in China. It is rarely too hot and you can usually wear whatever you like throughout the season.

Temperatures range between 10 and 21 degrees Celsius.

There may be a few weeks that experience temperatures as high as 30 degrees, but don’t depend on it.

Because it is not very hot for long in UK summertime, very few rooms have air conditioning.

You might want to buy a cheap fan from a shop called Wilkinsons, which are in every town.
